INSPECT-SPSW: INelastic Seismic Performance Evaluation Computational Tool for Steel Plate Shear Wall Modeling in OpenSees

نویسندگان

چکیده

Modeling Steel Plate Shear Wall (SPSW) behavior can be computationally demanding. This is especially true when high-fidelity modeling carried out via shell or 3D solid elements. It has been shown that SPSW captured with adequate accuracy through the strip method nonlinear truss elements idealization. The widely accepted and reliable analysis platform, OpenSees, requires text-based input (.tcl) files created by a skilled programmer. Hence, Pre/Post-processing User Interface (UI) software package (INSPECT-SPSW) introduced herein. With basic input, INSPECT-SPSW allows user to create OpenSees file, run different analyses, retrieve visualize output. In addition, UI includes illustrated wrappers for several commands various material definitions, plasticity options, modal analysis, types. Validation verification were conducted against published results of experimental numerical cyclic loading specimens. user-friendly interface successfully accurate models capture behavior, including possible failure mechanisms. e.g., beam column plastic hinging, web plate yielding, etc. demonstrated performance intuitive UI, expected facilitate broad adoption Performance-Based Earthquake Design (PBED) SPSWs.

Seismic Performance of Steel Plate-Reinforced Concrete Composite Shear Wall

In tall buildings the reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall is one of the predominant structural components used to resist lateral loads induced by earthquakes around the world. Previous research demonstrated that shear walls displayed a sudden loss in lateral capacity due to the wall corner and web crushing in the plastic zone. In addition, it was found that large shear distortions in shear wall...

Corner Crack Effect on the Seismic Behavior of Steel Plate Shear Wall System

Although, experimental studies have reported fracture at the corner of Steel Plate Shear Walls (SPSW), no study has been performed to investigate the crack effect, yet. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of crack at the corner of SPSWs on the seismic behavior of the system was investigated. Two probable cracks, that have been studies at the corner of SPSWs utilizing extended Finite Element me...

Seismic Behavior of Intermediate Beams in Steel Plate Shear Walls

This paper presents some preliminary results of an ongoing research whose objective is to investigate the seismic behavior of intermediate beams (i.e., the beams other than those at the roof and foundation levels) in multi-story steel plate shear walls (SPSWs). Of primary interest is the determination of the strength level needed to avoid the formation of in-span plastic hinges, a relevant prac...

Comparison of plasticity and stiffness of steel shear walls with composite steel plate shear wall

The steel shear wall and composite steel plate shear wall is introduced in recent three decade and is considered and is spread rapidly. Composite steel plate shear wall which is made of a layer of thin steel sheet with coating of reinforced concrete in one or both sides of steel palate is considered a third generation of resistance shear walls against lateral loads that in addition to increasin...

Performance-Based Plastic Design of Moment Frame-Steel Plate Shear Wall as a Dual System

Steel Plate Shear Wall (SPSW) is an emerging seismic load-resistant system that, compared to other systems, enjoys the advantages of stable ductile behavior, fewer detailing requirements, rapid constructability, and economy. American seismic provisions decree that a SPSW should be designed as a moment frame with a web infill plate. Specifically, in case of buildings taller than 160 ft, it decre...
